Daisies at Aylard Farm

Looking at wildflowers I am struck by the scale of things one can appreciate in nature. Aylard farm is part of East Sooke Park, which sits along a rocky coastline. It’s a place where one can appreciate the expanse of the ocean, or walk up to this meadow to get down into the grassy meadow to see the daisies up close.

With this painting, I tried to get away from some of my usual habits. Instead of trying to keep every line as smooth as possible like I usually do, I abandoned brushes entirely and applied thick daubs of paint, wet on wet, using a palette knife.
