The Juan de Fuca Trail on the west coast of Vancouver Island, and was established in 1889 to maintain a telegraph line that connected Bamfield to Victoria. Moving through the forest on this trail, I felt like 1889 was not that long ago. Being a part of that landscape, I was aware of how immense it is, and how my existence is just a blip compared to the rocks, the trees, the ocean and its waves. Being there was both humbling as I contemplated my insignificance, and comforting to know it will be there long after I am not.
