I based this painting on a photo I took more than 10 years ago, when I used to work in an office in Fan Tan Alley, in Victoria’s historic Chinatown.
I loved working downtown, and being in the constant company of strangers going about their business. Something was always happening, and the lights and hustle bustle of traffic and pedestrians always made it seem like the place to be.
This was true even early on a drizzly weeknight in the late fall, when the sky darkened after the sun went down before 5, and the most significant thing happening was the flattening of cardboard boxes by a greengrocer.
The 18×24″ original acrylic on canvas painting has sold, but prints can be found here.
