Traveling on the ferry always brings me a sense of pause. For 90 minutes or so, there’s not much to do but take in the scenery, or stick one’s nose in a book, or close one’s eyes for a snooze. It’s a state that’s conducive to letting my mind take a break. The journey frees me to be a better observer of the islands, and the markers upon them, as they drift by.
